I can’t believe I’ve published two books. Most of the time I completely forget about them, but sometimes I am like “WOW” how did I do that?
I haven’t written for a while because I am so focussed on the business, I have lost all sensitivity about what’s happening around me. In saying that, I am hoping to pick up writing again this year – so who knows maybe I’ll have a third book?
This was my first book. The english title wasn’t even right. I wrote about the funny things that happened to me when I came to Australia. The culture shock, working, living away from home, etc.
Before I came to Australia I never imagined living overseas. I was a princess when I was a child, with my dad driving me everywhere and I thought money grew from the wallet. Who wants to live away from home?
Life changed when I came here for university and I fell in love with Australia.
I remember my first impression of Australia was LAZY. I came from a city that’s 24/7, and 17 years ago shops closed here at 5pm and would not even open on a Sunday. What shocked me was the taxi driver didn’t even know where they were going – they had to read a map! Of course, this was before iPhone’s existed and I didn’t know Australia was such a big country. Who wants to live in a country like that? Other than that, Australian’s are very kind, very accepting and very funny. Although I will ask you, who puts hot chips in their burger? Are you in a hurry? Who do we shorten people’s names like David to Davo or Barry to Bazza? This has been confusing the crap out of me for a long time!
So I decided to write a book about Australia and the funny things that happened around me when I first came here. It was written in Chinese of course, because I don’t think my English was good enough back then. Even today I still think I don’t speak English most of the time. I want to show people it’s not easy living in a foreign country alone, but if you keep trying and understanding the new culture you’ll fall in love with this country!
You may think that I have a fancy creative colourful workplace but the truth is I work from the bed most of the time!
The truth is, I have an office with a fancy computer. The office is full of stock at the moment but I really enjoy the quiet time in there. HOWEVER! My dog Daisy follows me everywhere and always wants to play. I thought to myself, if I work in the bedroom maybe she’ll go to sleep – and that’s what happens. She sleeps, I work!
My typical night usually looks like this: Daisy sleeping peacefully on my side of the bed, while Iain falls asleep while watching TV. I have to lie at the end of the bed because my dog has taken my side, and I have heaps of books and notes lying around.
So yes! This is how I work most of the time. I will spend time in the office when I need to do serious illustrations, but if I am just working I am usually on the bed! I am very jealous of people having nice home offices. I am also jealous of the super smart ladies that have kids and also built a business empire because I can’t even handle my own dog!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and we have some incredible ideas for Mother’s Day gifts!
This year I have illustrated an Emu mum giving her little one a kiss for our Mother’s Day products theme. As mother’s day illustration usually full of love hearts and bears I decided to give a little bit more Aussie “accent” in my illustration.
This illustration is printed on card, cushion and mug. They are all available on my website and in store and the mug can be personalized as well.
Wow! Where did I go? I was absent for exactly a month!
To tell you the truth. No where. I am at work everyday and if I am not at the shop I am working at home. Sometimes it feels like it’s all working but no thinking? I am so concentrate on what I’ve got in front of me and I forgot to look at the big picture. Everyday I am looking at what I need to draw, what’s out of stock, what do I need to write on Instagram, what do I need to put on the website. The list is forever long but I only have limited time.
Hopefully I can get back on track with the blog and more importantly my time management.
Hello from Hong Kong!! I am so excited to see my little brother getting married on Sunday! Renee, my wonderful friend, will be working at the shop at South Melbourne Market from today until I come back. She is the nicest person I’ve ever work with. I am sure she’ll bring more happiness to the shop!
Thanks to Facebook I found a photo of my market stall 6 years ago in Melbourne. Who would have thought I would have my own shop today?
I remember I was working at the hospital at that time. Struggling to deal with exceptionally annoying lazy colleagues everyday. Flying to Melbourne to do markets at least once a month. Just because I believed I can do better than what I was doing.
People think I was crazy but I don’t care. I was dreaming to move back to Melbourne where all the creative people are. I was so desperate to make it works. Life will only change when you become more committed to your dreams. There’s no fast track you just have to keep trying. I love those time when I took all my handmade goodies from Sydney to Melbourne. I was so determined. I didn’t become a super star in the market instantly but it definitely made me realised what my dream is.
We went to watch the tennis few days ago. It was Nadal and Monfils and the two players were both amazing! The match was great but the audience made it even better! The emotions – the cheers, the sigh, the yell all together makes the match so much fun and appreciated.
I feel the same with our business. It’s a great adventure and it’s been awesome but the customers make the whole journey even better. It’s a nice feeling when people remember us. It’s great when people came back and asked how we are and how’s the business going. It’s the best when people keep coming back with their friends and family. Every time I see people come back I am just over the moon coz it just means we’re doing the right thing. It just mean all the hard work behind the sense really worth it.
I am looking forward to share my journey with you all.
We are so excited!!! We’ll be moving to our new shop at South Melbourne Market next week. It’s going to be a longer term lease so no more packing for awhile!! Yay!
It’s a mix feeling because we’re going to miss our lovely neighbours at shop 120. We have a great time around these great people around us. We’re going to miss that for sure.
At the same time we’re very thankful and excited. We can finally plan our lives ahead. We will bring in more new products. We will be teaming up with social media guru in the next 12 months. We will have some exciting projects that involve the creative community and general public.
Once again we have to thank South Melbourne Market for giving us the opportunity to extend our stay at the market. We know there are lots of creative business out there fighting for the spot and we are very thankful that we have the support. This is really a dream come true for us.
